Suggest Best Practices for Efficient Plastic Waste Management

Plastics have significantly penetrated in all walks of our life mainly owing to their performance supremacy over conventional materials. At the same time, plastics have attracted a lot of attention, not so much for their positive attributes, but because of their negative environmental impact. The problem is severe in urban agglomerations in India due to littering, choking of drainage pipes due to pipes etc.

In the absence of a systematic and scientific arrangement for plastics waste management, the criticism of plastics has been building up. It is a need of the hour to find effective means of managing the plastic waste that is generated from the state and to make sure that environmental degradation occurring due to the same is checked at the earliest. This can be done by ensuring effective management of waste / creating economic wealth from waste i.e. ‘cash from trash’. There may be a number of success stories which can be shared in this regard.

The Government of Tripura invites you to join hands in this initiative. Paragraphs on the above theme are invited.

The winning entry (and two consolation prizes) will be awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the Department.

These collection of waste that is segregated into three categories should be collected from every house, hotel, hospitals, etc and further segregated into recyclable and non-recyclable wastes. Non recyclable waste should be disposed at a designated spot away from populated areas. Recyclable waste should be transported to centers where recycling of waste is done.

My suggestions for effective Plastics Waste management are as follows:-

(1) Make waste segregation compulsory and into two categories as DRY WASTE and WET WASTE. Dry waste should include plastics, paper, etc. Wet waste should include vegetable waste, fruit leftover, cooked food leftover, etc.

(2) Another category called REJECT WASTE should include shaving razors, blade, sanitary napkins, tissue paper, diaper, etc. These three categories of waste should have separate BINS for disposal.

First of all bann all the plastic carry bag manufacturing companies. During inspection when I seized plastic carry bag, the trader's raised a question that we have no power to bann the manufacturing companies but as they are small traders we are freely disturbing them. This is the ground reality that we have no answer to reply them.

Sir plastic is a substance that does not go away for many years.
Firstly, Initiating skill development training on plastic based Mat, interior Decorative (Office/ Home), seat covers etc.
Finally, setup of large scale cloth industry may be established at NCR where the plastics may be processed to dresses (may be school uniform).
